From Figure 1 it is clear that simple formula (10) gives practically the same results as more complicated one (8). It seems that for the Eurocodes EN 1993-1-1 and EN 1999-1-1 could be used the simplest formula (18) with α = 6, that means formula (19). These analytical results are compared in Table 1 with numerical results obtained by DLUBAL program DUENQ (English name SHAPE-THIN) which uses simplex method. Table 1 shows that computer program DUENQ gives the same results as formula (10). Formula (19) gives results which are slightly on safe side.
