The instrumentation panel (Fig. 10) is a complete stand-alone system which contains all controls and displays. It can be interface, if desired, with computer systems, CRT displays, printers, and remote keyboards. Based on surveys of glass container manufacturers, the panel was designed with a pictorial forehearth map containing LED displays of temperatures and pressures, together with setpoint adjustments for all controlled variables. All control algorithms are programmed into the system from a keyboard.

Basically we are continually analyzing our failure experiences, and where the effort best pays off, we are developing so called software rinky dinks to exercise the component or system to pinpoint the problem. This local analysis is the forerunner of our remote program. We are presently putting in place a communication network which will enable us to interrogate systems remotely and thus considerably upgrade our on-site technical support.
